Email setup for iphone

Add your @southern.edu email to an iPhone or iPad

Southern Adventist University email accounts use Microsoft Exchange Online (Microsoft 365). On iPhone and iPad, we recommend using the Microsoft Outlook app. Apple Mail is also available if you prefer the built-in  mail app. Microsoft and Apple both support adding Microsoft 365 / Exchange work or school accounts directly on iPhone and iPad.

Recommended: Microsoft Outlook for iPhone and iPad

  1. Open the App Store and install Microsoft Outlook.
  2. Open Outlook.
  3. Tap Add Account.
  4. Enter your full Southern email address, for example username@southern.edu.
  5. If prompted, select "Work or school account".
  6. Follow the Microsoft sign-in prompts.
  7. Sign in with your Southern account password.
  8. Complete Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) if prompted.
  9. Accept any permission or security prompts required for your account.

Apple Mail on iPhone and iPad

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap Apps.
  3. Tap Mail.
  4. Tap Mail Accounts.
  5. Tap Add Account.
  6. Enter your full Southern email address, for example username@southern.edu
  7. Choose Microsoft Exchange.
  8. Confirm your email address by tapping Next.
  9. Choose Sign In when prompted.
  10. When prompted use "login.microsoftonline.com", tap Continue.
  11. If prompted, select "Work or school account".
  12. Sign in with your Southern account password.
  13. Complete Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) if prompted.
  14. Choose which items you want to sync, such as Mail, Contacts, Calendars, and Reminders, then tap Save

Need help?

If setup fails:

  • Make sure your iPhone or iPad is connected to the internet
  • Double-check your full @southern.edu email address
  • Make sure you can sign in to your Southern Microsoft 365 account in a web browser
  • Complete any MFA prompt on your phone or authentication app
  • Remove the account and add it again if needed
