Information Literacy Presentation Requests

McKee Library offers a variety of information literacy sessions and writing presentations available upon request. Your session can be conducted in person or online. While most sessions are conducted during class time, arrangements can be made for alternative times.

To request a specific session be held during your course class time or at an alternative time, please email Bethany Howard (bfhoward@southern.edu) for general library instruction or Donald Martin (dvmartin@southern.edu) for nursing or allied health library instruction a week in advance.

Can my class meet in the library for a library instruction session?

Yes, the librarians are happy to meet with your class here in the library or in your course classroom.

Why is library instruction worthwhile?
Library instruction familiarizes students with how to navigate the library website, where to find a variety of library materials, evaluate sources for credibility, classify types of sources, conduct database searches, and much more.
My class completes a research project. Can a librarian teach my students how to find resources for this research project?

Yes, the library offers library instruction catered to particular research projects upon request.

Does the library offer library instruction classes for online only courses?
Yes, the library is happy to offer live Zoom instruction sessions for online courses.
Does the library offer tours?

Yes, Bethany Howard offers library tours to all Southern Connections classes to familiarize new students with the library.  Archive/special collections tours are also available upon request.

Does the Writing Center offer workshops?
Dr. Sonja Fordham, director of the Writing Center and Tutoring Center, offers workshops on a variety of writing-related topics at McKee Library. Please see the Writing Center webpage for more information on these workshops.
