MOBILE DEVICE SECURITY

Antivirus Protection

This helps prevent malicious software from taking control of your phone, stealing data, or monitoring your activity.

Antivirus software is recommended for Android platforms at this time. Apple mobile devices are not in danger at this time but may need antivirus software in the near future.

To install antivirus on Android

  1. Navigate to Google Play and select apps.
  2. Search for one of the recommended antivirus products: AVG, Bitdefender, Trend Micro, Avast or Sophos.
  3. Install the app.
Note: Some antivirus apps may require payment but free apps are often available.

SET PIN/PASSCODE FOR DEVICE

If stolen or lost, thieves could have full access to all data on the mobile device: pictures, bank apps, email, and contacts. Setting a passcode helps prevent this from happening.

Setup Instructions

Instructions for Apple iPhone

For security, you can set a passcode that you must enter each time you turn on or wake up the iPhone or when you access the passcode lock settings.

Setting a passcode turns on data protection, which uses your passcode as the key for encrypting mail messages and attachments stored on the iPhone. A notice at the bottom of the Passcode Lock screen in Settings shows that data protection is enabled.

  1. Go to Settings, then depending on your model, do one of the following:

    • On an iPhone with Face ID: Tap Face ID & Passcode.

    • On an iPhone with a Home button: Tap Touch ID & Passcode.

  2. Tap Turn Passcode On or Change Passcode.

To view options for creating a password, tap Passcode Options. The most secure options are Custom Alphanumeric Code and Custom Numeric Code.

Instructions for Android

Secure your lock screen

  1. Touch the Settings app.
  2. Touch Location & security or Security.
  3. Touch Configure lock screen.
  4. Choose Pattern, PIN, or Password.

These services help track down thieves, keep your data secure and can potentially help recover lost devices.
